Cause of Anna Garcia's Death
Project 6.1.2
6.1.2 How Did She Die
Conclusion Questions (And paragraph)
1. Anna Garcia’s cause of death was ketoacidosis. This was a result of her diabetes and her lack of managing it. Her body broke down fat instead of sugar and produced ketones in the blood stream. At the crime scene, there was vomit present on the floor near her which is one of the main signs of ketoacidosis. Her medical reports often said that she would complain of constant thirst, this is because her blood sugar was too high causing her cells to release water and also causing her to urinate more. In her final medical report, it is stated that ketones were found in her urine. This was a dangerously high level of ketones. The autopsy report claimed Anna had a few places on her thigh where she tried to inject herself with insulin. This explains the syringe that was found at the crime scene.
2. Her endocrine system malfunctioned in relationship to the ketoacidosis. Her body was breaking down fat and not sugar so then the liver must not have been getting the message from the endocrine system if glucagon wasn’t being converted into glucose. Another system that was affected was the circulatory system. The ketones in the blood turn the blood acidic so therefore her body turned acidic causing other systems to malfunction.
3. Before Anna died, she would have been complaining about her high blood sugar, which would explain why she tried to inject herself with insulin right before she died. She was probably nauseous, which explains the vomit. Feeling tired and fatigued would be symptoms as well. Frequent urination could have been one of her complaints as well because thats a common symptom of ketoacidosis. She also may have complained about thirst which explained the large empty bottle of orange juice (or some sort of liquid) found at the crime scene.
4. If Anna would have kept up with exercise and regulating her blood sugar by a healthier diet, she may have lived longer than she did. Also, monitoring her blood glucose levels would have helped her a lot more, especially if she regularly injected herself with insulin to regulate her blood sugar levels.
5. I think that a coroner would be a very interesting job to have. After watching a lot of crime scene investigation shows like Bones and CSI, examining bodies for cause of death has always interested me. I think its amazing that from a body, someone can figure out exactly what the person was doing before they died. I don’t think it would get too boring either because each body would be different, so that would keep things interesting and not repetitive. Another career that would be interesting to learn more about for the future is a primary care physician. A physician is almost like a nurse but I’m pretty sure they get paid more. Either way, it would be awesome to be one because I just want to go out into the world and help those who need caring for.
